Ok, here’s a question for you Brits. Blackcurrent anything isn’t available here in the states, least not in my region. I’ve never tasted the real thing. But there is a British import food site online here, and I’ve ordered some Vimto and Ribena to try…which I am told they are both more berry rather than a real blackcurrant taste. There is a Duerrs Blackcurrant jam I could order…have any of you tried that jam and is that more of a blackcurrant taste? Ignorant american wants to know.
Jammy berry can take over a lot of things…
my rate of use for it is around 3 drops (.12%) to 6 drops (.2%) at the most.
I love the black current from flv… it’s good in my Black Voodoo… and I know @SthrnMixer and @rastachick really enjoy the mix…
Smoky Blue’s Black Voodoo
Ingredient | % |
---|---|
Black Currant (Flavorah) | 0.60 |
Citrus Soda (Flavorah) | 0.80 |
Lemon (Flavorah) | 0.06 |
Lemonade (Flavorah) | 0.40 |
Lime (Flavorah) | 0.06 |
Red Raspberry (Flavorah) | 0.60 |
Wild Melon (Flavorah) | 0.40 |
I’m considering adding that cactus apple to the mix to make it even more juicy… I’d use something like .4% with it too…
Good luck to your tries… black current has been out for a while now… love to see what you come up with!
Wow, I had heard of Smoky’s famous Black Voodoo recipe, and here it is!! Thank you for the tip on the Jammy Berry. I need about 3 of those FLV concentrates, and I’m good to go with that recipe. Looking forward to it!
Depending on which ones… I might be able to help you @Cosmic
Would love to hear what you think…
The Custard Slut was a good choice
It’s what I keep in one of my newest setups.
Let me know what you think.
Yellow Matter I’m sure, will be a winner too! Haven’t mixed yet.
Oh, thank you @SmokyBlue, I was going to place an order today for those that I needed, plus the cactus apple sounds like one I want to try also. So we’re good here. And I’ll let you know how the blackcurrant project is going…and definately going to mix up the Voodoo as soon as those roll in.
Vimto is a mixed fruit drink with just one of those fruits being Blackcurrent so not even close. If you put a drop of Ribena (undiluted) on your finger and taste, there you have it! A very strong and very tart flavour which needs diluting because of that strength which is why unlike a lot of other fruits you can’t just drink the juice undiluted as it’s just too strong and the berries tend to get mixed sparingly with other fruits to be able to eat!
Tim, thank you for this, I appreciate it. Ironic, as the Vimto and Ribena that i’d ordered came in yesterday, so I tried the Ribena mixed with cold water, Man is that tasty! I love this drink, never had anything quite like it before. What a shame it isn’t sold over here, fact is I had never heard of Ribena until recently. My kids like it too, mixed in Sprite. And I did try the drop on the finger, which gave me a good feel for the taste. Now, I’m on a Ribena juice mixing frenzy, trying various combinations and SmokyBlues famous black voodoo as soon as those concentrates come in. The taste of the Ribena is kind of addictive to me right now. And by the way Tim, wanted to say I appreciate all the reviews I’ve read by you, you do a fine job.
Peach 1.4%
Nectarine .4%
Tangerine .4%
Sweet Cream 1.2%
Cucumber .12% <3 drops
you can sub cucumber with 1 from this list:
Basil 3/6 drops
Chai Spice 3/6 drops
Lovage 1 drop!!!
Rich cinnamon 1drop
3 drops of cucumber is for me, refreshing… but if you are new to green vapes, you might want to start with 1-2 drops…
Missing the 2 rhubarbs, but I’ll bet they go good with that plum
Does anyone do a Damson concentrate?
This is still a work in progress. Just rewicked to test again and it does deserve some more play time. Just needs a tweak or two but the base is there.
I’m really enjoying the new plum so far, put it this way I’ve ordered more already
Next I’m going to try with blackberry.
Interesting had to google to figure out what they were. I can’t recall a concentrate of that name.
Love this DIY vaping stuff, I’ve learnt so much about foods and things from around the world.
When i was a kid we had Damson trees mate, almost like plums just much smaller and consistently juicier, just lush! Great for making home made wine!
Damson Jam another winner!
7 days of maceration …
Both are excellent. I’m not good at describing flavors, but I do know what I like. Yellow Matter is a sweeter custard, very balanced and Custard Slut is a bit drier, with some egg.
Sorry to the creators for my poor description, my intention is to say that they are excellent and that I will surely repeat. Let’s see how they evolve in another week …
Something was telling me to combine all the FLV Mangoes with both coconuts. The balance is off a tad, will drop the coconut on next version.
I think you’re onto something @marsh8, and great use of the dualing cocos and mangos.
Permission to steal this but with VTA pudding base and serving with custard?
