He dropped off the face…Hope he’s ok
Can’t understand a bloody word british say! Except for Horatio Hornblower. A mini-series from A&E. 'Course some of the actors are American… I’m sure you’ll recognize a few.
This video says there are 4 movies, but since then 4 more were made. C.S. Forrester wrote 12 books about him, 8 of which were made into movies. 90 minutes plus! Hopefully 1 or 2 of you will remember I love tall ships. I build models of them that take up to 3 years to build. Not because I’m slow, they are SO detailed.
As I understand, at the time the 1st movie was made, it was THE most expensive movie produced by the UK. While real ships and models were already made in the first movie, the 2nd movie cost more.
In the 1st episode his captain asked what his education was. He said he was a Grecian. (Hadda google what that was) Couldn’t pass a nautical test for the life of him. His bravery and ingenuity brought him to an admiral in the last book.
And if you brits never heard of C.S. Forrester, SHAME ON YOU!!!
I have the whole series on DVD and have watched them dozens of times. Introduced a dozen kids to the series and they decided to love history. Worked with a man in his early 60’s when I first learned of the movies. Told him about it. Said he doesn’t like war movies. “Try, it, you’ll like it.” Gave him the 1st one. Next day he asked for the next. I just grinned, said, “I thought you might say that. Here ya go.”
