What are you watching? (TV, movies, streaming)

It is nice to now have a simplified explanation (rather than my own lengthy detailing of all - when they oddly don’t accept that colour imps protect them from all cells being replaced) when I have to explain to others that I’m not interested as I have tattoos older than them, and they then ask why they are still there.

As it is the anniversary of the world shuddering when I burst onto this plain, in the middle of a storm, during an eclipse of the moon, died, and then came back - I thought I’d watch an old favourite for my birthday.

So, as it always occurs during Advent (the cosy time when we ignore the fact that Jesus was probably born in September) I chose a favourite religious film -

Robocop.

Every year, I still encounter people who don’t realise that Paul Verhoeven made this as a satire on the American idea of Jesus. But then, others still fail to grasp the obvious ‘reality’ of Total Recall and when he slapped all in the face with Starship Troopers.

It seems that satirical action movies are beyond some, and that there is only one man who could make them - as he directed the holy trinity of perfect action movies.

Oh joy: More personality driven content over news.

The trailer at the start almost made me give up on humanity, particularly as it (in the most genial language I can use), obfuscated the general playing field of fact in order to favour impact.

I’ve queued up an infamous classic all lovers of B-movies know very well - So much so, that two words from one scene is more famous than the movie itself. I think that this one line could only be matched by the notable ones in They Live! and Troll 2.

Well, I said I wouldn’t include it this year but, as I have been making notes on When Evil Lurks: Rare Exports came to mind. Both are glorious works, as long as subtitles don’t bother you too much. Personally, subtitles suit horror as it makes you focus more. Though, I tend to forget that detail and then notice after 25 minutes that it’s not in English.

The American trailer:

The Australian trailer (a rather distinct representation for mature audiences):

As the UK is pretty much getting ready to shutdown for the annual piss-up (generally ending between 2-5th with 26th for Scotland), I thought I’d welcome it in with a heart-warming tale:

Tonight shall be Sci-Fi. I was pondering watching something created under the edicts of Pope Corman but then decided on something more family friendly - Spaceballs!

As tonight is the night before Christmas - I will watch my favourite movie for the day (not choosing it is like opting for Pulp Fiction on 2nd February):

I’m catching up on America’s latest attempts to insult every known cuisine,

As it is Christmas, only a truly Godly and inspirational movie will do. So, I chose the finest of all road to Damascus tales - The Blues Brothers.

My Evening choices will be The Corpse Bride and About Time.

I always watch The Corpse Bride as its melancholic nature matches the style of many lost lovers before they died - most joined the 27 Club with my unkillable frame left behind.

About Time is a perennial favourite as it touches on the desire to change things, the damage that can cause, while also rebuilding a relationship with your father.

I actually chatted with Dan Aykroyd for 5-10 minutes once, before he was an actor he worked on road crews here in Alberta and is just an incredibly nice guy…. Blue brothers was a movie my family watched often as my brother was a huge fan
