Help with flavor percentages

Sorry, whomever, I don’t remember. Hey that rhymed! Kinda. Someone told me how to see what the median % of a flavor is used for a specific flavor.

I’m wanting to make some whoppers flavor.

Condensed Milk = .9
Malted Milk = .75
Milk Chocolate = .3

60 mL.

Total flavor percentage = 3.25

Pulling up several random recipes, I see anywhere from 10% to 20% total, but they have a half dozen flavors or more to come to that total.

What am I misunderstanding?

@PaulyWalnuts I don’t know what MFG flavors you are using, so do not quote these percentages, but I think @whthek might have been the one who tipped you off, to our @Grubby’s relentless pursuit of the VCC Calculator here. ANY time you enter a flavor (choose from the drop down list that is), you are presented with a highlighted pop up of sorts, that shows you the typical usage rate.

As far as this ^^^^^, now you’re talking TOTAL flavor percentage of entire recipes, NOT the individual flavor usage percentage(s).

So you’re saying 2.96% total flavoring will have some great flavor?

Seems kinda wimpy?

Can’t believe something THIS simple is confusing me:(

Well it’s going to depend on two major things. The first is the brand/MFG. Some flavors are hella strong, others are weak as hell. There is NO WAY to directly compare random flavors, as they will often times be VERY different strength wise. Meaning, if you use FA White Peach at 3.5% and it’s perfect, you won’t get the same results using TPA’s Juicy Peach at that weight, as it is very weak.

Sometimes, MFG’s will keep their flavors at relatively the same strength, so if you are using one brand, you can sometimes, use at similar strengths, with similar results, but that’s SINGLE flavors. Once you start adding to recipes, everything can change, depending on what profiles you want, how many other flavors there are, etc.

@PaulyWalnuts I don’t know how many Flavorah flavors you have or not, but you should check out ANY of @SmokyBlue’s recipes. Now granted she only used Flavorah, but she was an expert in “How Low Can You Go”, when mixing …

Damn! That’s all I can say…

Guess I’ll just have try and see. Or taste as the case may be…

I’ma make some whoppers! In the recommended %'s. Couple more SFT’s at 3% nic. I think I’ll make a couple SFT’s with no nic, but I really wanna quit smoking.

Let’s talk about steeping. I know sweets need a couple weeks at least, but can I try it right after mixing, to see how the nic levels are?

Also running low on coils. Can I rinse them and let then dry to reuse them?

Oh, and do you think I might wanna try a different mod, than my Smog mag-18?

Hi Pauly - in reverse order:

A lot of times in mixing your own, less can be more. Adding a lot of flavors can sometimes mute the recipe. It’s sometimes better to lower some percentages to let other flavors come forward in a recipe.

Just my own opinion here but the mod is not that important unless your doing temp control - they’re just batteries that provide power.

You can, but once they get gunked up with sugars (and you seem to like your vapes sweet) you can only get so much life out of them. That’s why a lot of the folks in VC like rebuildables - replacing cotton is cheap.

Absolutely, a taster “off the shake” as we say is fine, but some recipes take a while to mature.

I can tell you have high hopes for this recipe - I’ve been right there with you, but failure is sometimes a fact of life in mixing your own. Don’t lose heart. Here’s one recipe that already exists:
DIY Whoppers #AAFL ejuice recipe :: e-Liquid Calculator
Not sure what flavors you have, but a bit of biscuit might go well in your recipe? @SessionDrummer/All, Pauly clearly wants to quit the stinkies - is there some help with his recipe we can offer? Thanks All.

Yeah, to this date I still can’t wrap my head around super concentrates like flavorah but one recipe I made with 5 flavours and I think it was like 2.25%

Yeah, been reading - a little - about that. Definitely something I want to try. WHEN these juices get me happy:)

Yep! All my teeth need sweets. And I still got them all. Except for 1 bridge.

I’m gonna mix some malted milk, milk chocolate and condensed milk. I don’t have any sweeteners - yet. Just ordered a Sweetener Flavor-FW from Bull City, and a Smores flavor pack.

And what the hell is that? Must not be doing it:) Isn’t that changing the wattage?

Not the sheets my wife just bought! Like a Gabazillion thread count or some crap. She’s like, “aren’t these great?” I’m like, “Now I lay me down to sleep…” And I’m out. It takes 16 pills a day to keep this classic antique, wrinkling. Then I sleep for 12 hours a day. You hear about these old farts getting up at the crack of dawn, going pee 10 times a night. Me? I wake, gotta pee, then fall back asleep!

I’ll have to check out the biscuit and waffle. SHE can spend money, but me? Holy, sheep shit! Doom on the horizon. Try to explain to her that when all is said and done, we’re talking less that $2.00 per bottle of juice. Yeah, but you’ve spent hundreds of dollars. Yeah, but at my age this shit’ll last me until I die!!!

@PaulyWalnuts everyone will have their own system, but for me, fruits can be vaped (sometimes) off the shake, but typically a few days or even a week to settle in. Bakeries, Creams, Creameries 2 weeks, and thick rich custards, and tobaccos can take up to a month (or more) to bloom/settle.

@PaulyWalnuts every time I single flavor test (or even recipes, WIP’s, etc.) I always add NIC. I want to get as close to how it will be actually used, for my testing.

What MFG flavors are you using @PaulyWalnuts ?

As far as getting him off the cigs, I think all we need to do (short term) is get him on whatever flavor profile(s) he likes, and just get him ADV’ing. THEN, we can help him to start constructing new recipes.

Condensed Milk - Purilum
Malted Milk - TPA
Milk Chocolate - DX TPA

I’m also going to make some Brown Sugar - DX TPA

What’s that?

Here’s 5 recipes I’m making now, and my current flavor stash:

Question about the calculator. I can enter the % of PG for my NIC at 50, does the calculator automatically assume it’s 50/50?

Sorry @PaulyWalnuts, All Day Vape(ing). Typically once you find a great recipe or mix, you can vape All Day.

That’s the goal, aint it?

Wife’ll still make my sit out here in the garage all day.

The hell is that?

Okay, Mr. go to guy. Regarding the recipe calculator. The % of PG in the Nicotine defaults to 100.

Mine is 50/50 PG/VG. If I adjust it to 50% does the calculator automagically take that into account? We’re talking, what, a mg? That seems pretty insignificant to me.

Yes, @PaulyWalnuts, the calculator will automagically adjust, so you should change the % of PG to 50%.

PG - 1.036g per ml @ 25°C
VG - 1.2612g per ml @25°C

So the amount of vg in your nic can make a significant difference when mixing by weight - not too much on a small mix but as you make larger mixes the errors will add up.

Excellent, thanks!

When money was tight I soaked a coil in a shot glass of everclear or cheap vodka. Soak over night and rinse with warm water. Let dry a few hours and vape. All coils have a shelf life so you will still have to buy coils, just not as often.
