But wait, there’s more!
Still looking to get our house painted, outside and some inside, leek on the patio cover, bunch of small jobs. Budget is 16 thousand. I’ve use homeadvisor.com and yelp.com and have had mixed results.
But really, whataya gonna do, eh? Narrowed it down to 3 contractors. Just now, I wrote another one off. The whole time he’s here, he’s bragging about how he has integrity, word of mouth is the best way to get business. He can provide references…etc.
Alarms are going off, every voice in my head is telling me, HELL, no! We get done, he says, he’s going to take measurements and they’ll be on their way.
Not 1 minute later I thought of a question I wanted to ask. Went out to ask, no one in site.
Called, he answers all chipper, “Hi, Brian, what’s up?”
“where 'ya at?” I asked.
He says, “hang on a minute.” Silence for a good 5 minutes, then says, I’m at lunch, I can be back in about an hour."
LOL’d! Told him not to bother and lose my number.
AS I’m typing this I get a call from a moving company. Amerisafe. I had called over a month ago to get an idea of what it’d cost to move us. They had excellent reviews.
I don’t recall the details of the conversation with a rep, but the long and short of it is, after a long winded tale of how they got started, how long they’ve been in business… He finally gets down to brass tacks. Asks me to DESCRIBE what’s in each room.
I asked if he wanted to do a video walkthrough. I know it’s all the weight.
Says, “Nah. you describe your couch to me and I’ll know what it weighs.”
“No thanks” I declared. “I won’t do business that way. " But thanks anyway.” Said my goodbye’s and hung up.
Called me right back. Something about not wanting to see me get ripped off. I said, “no thank you. I will not do business that way.” and hung up. Called me back telling my I’m making a big mistake. Told him I agree, my mistake was answering the phone again. Please do not call again.
He called right back. Said, something, don’t recall, wasn’t listening to him, and told him I’d be reporting him to the Better Business Bureau and Consumer Affairs. Blocked his number and did what I promised.
The woman that just called wanted to apologize for the rep’s behavior and wanted to offer a resolution with a 25% discount. Told her I don’t do business the way they do.
Asked if I could change my review for the better if she sent me a $50 Amazon gift card. Told her no, but I will do an addendum.
So, that’s what I’m off to do!
