After an initial charge (say first charge in the nitecore) are they ok or the contact is stiff a bit iffy?

No, it takes a few charges in the Nitecore, which tells me that the wrap is perhaps a little stiff and needs a bit of “flattening”.

Maybe a little bit of treatment from a hairdryer or heat gun?

Yeah the Xtar has a long oval type of bulge, I presume to accommodate various battery sizes, and to be fair it works fine with 20700, 21700 and 26650’s, it’s just the 18650’s that I have an issue with.
I will try Simon’s suggestion of a little persuasion with the hair dryer.

The hairdryer seems to have helped the situation, and they are now making contact, it could be that being winter here the wraps are a bit stiff.

My Xtar Dragon charger has been working great so far. I have not had any problems with batteries seating properly. So far I have charged a lot of HG2s, T40s, Molicel 21700 and 18650s and the Blackcell Proton 18650s all with no problem.

I have been really busy with non vape stuff. I know, I know who has time for anything not vape related? But I guess I have to do it. So I did sneak by a local vape store and was able to get the Squid Double Barrel for $67 including the ridiculous California sales tax.
