Today’s UK changes go beyond age checks

The government’s guidance says the expanded age-of-sale rules start today, alongside restrictions on promotional giveaways and substantial discounts.

Age checks are straightforward enough. The interesting practical question is how shops handle the promotion rules while still helping adult smokers understand a setup.

There is a defence described for supplies under formal public-authority stop-smoking agreements, so ‘all free quitting help is banned’ would be a bloody poor summary.

Have any shops explained what they are changing? Particularly interested in clear guidance on starter offers and samples, rather than another round of guesswork wearing a confident expression.
