California’s proposed disposable vape restrictions are getting a lot of attention right now.

AB 762 has passed the California Legislature and is now awaiting action from Governor Newsom.

If signed into law, the bill would introduce restrictions in stages, with manufacturing and importing restrictions beginning in 2027 and retail sales restrictions beginning in 2028.

What I find particularly interesting is that this isn’t simply a blanket restriction on every type of vaping device. The proposal focuses on disposable, battery-embedded devices that are designed not to be reused.

This could potentially have a significant impact on:

• vape retailers
• disposable vape manufacturers
• distributors
• adult consumers
• the development of rechargeable pod systems

It also raises an interesting question for the industry:

Could California accelerate the shift from disposable devices toward rechargeable and refillable systems?

Without a doubt. Every underage vapor I know uses disposables. Matter of fact, with a few exceptions, everyone I’ve met that uses disposables are under age. Now the poor saps parents are going to have to save money by switching to the smarter ways.

Will it stop the disposables completely? NOPE! Even though Ca. banned “good” flavor e-liquids, we can still get them. Go to a shop, no we don’t have any but check back next week.

Can’t remember the name of the site, based near L.A. but they sell e-liquids that taste good. To residents of Ca.

So, they’ve taken away our ability to get a lot of the good flavors, they’re banning disposables, what’s next? Dollars to donuts, vaping period.

I personally, don’t consume nicotine. I quit smoking by vaping, weened myself off the nic, now I just enjoy the flavors. Butterscotch ripple ice cream, smore’s, I even make a pretty good butter fingers. Still working on Almond Joy.

Moving to Tennessee soon. BLOOD red state! Including open carry without a permit.

I understand where you’re coming from, and I appreciate you sharing your experience. I agree that simply banning disposables doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll disappear, especially if people can still find them through other channels.

At the same time, I think the bigger issue is finding a balance between preventing underage vaping and preserving reasonable choices for adults. The fact that some products are still available despite the restrictions does make it fair to question how effective these policies actually are.

And congratulations on quitting nicotine and getting off cigarettes—that’s genuinely a great accomplishment. I hope the move to Tennessee goes well for you!

Thanks. It’s a seriously scary endeavor! Not only are we classic antiques, we’re moving cross country from California!

I looked into moving companies but at 20K MINIMUM, more likely over 30K, it’ll be cheaper to have an estate sale and buy all new furniture, appliances, a bed, almost everything!

We have a lot of sentimental items and memorabilia, an antique clock, china cabinet, lead crystal… We’ll rent a pod. $7K gives us a month to load, a month to store (while we look for property) and a month to unload.

We’re too old/outta shape to pack and load, but my neighbors hate me, so I’m betting they’ll be happy to help get me out of the neighborhood!

Oldest boy is too far away and too old, my oldest grandson won’t speak to me, but my oldest great grand daughter and her husband and I are real close, and she says it’s only 7 hours from St. Louis so they’ll help us unload.

We’ve been to Tennessee to poke around and the people are amazingly friendly! Teen age boys hold doors for you, 20 something boys saw me limping (BAD!) and stopped me from cleaning the bugs off our wind shield. When he was done, I reached for my wallet and he said something like, “You’re not from around here huh? Folks here will be offended by a gesture like that.”

Then told me to work on my southern drawl.

Point being, my Realtor said, when our neighbors see a couple old farts, trying to unload a pod, they’ll help for pizza and beer.

First 40 years of our lives in Michigan. Loved the people and the scenery, hated the weather. Now? I’ll take bad weather over the people any day! Pretentious snobs.
