Hi, I’m having a mare opening this so I can place the coil. I’ve lined up the 2 dots (apparently it should pull apart then), it doesn’t, so I’ve tried freezing it for 30mins and used these rubber sheets I have for gripping. I’m not sure what else to try, been trying to get it apart for 2 days. Does anyone have any further suggestions, thanks if you can.
Hi @Maryrob ,
I don’t own a Dead Rabbit MTL 2, but I would suggest warming the tank somewhat instead of freezing it. You’ll want to wash it anyway prior to first use. Sometimes if the dots are off even the slightest the tank may not come off. If they are lined up exactly, try to gently rock the tank by holding your fingers over the dot, front to back. If you go side to side, you might be moving the tank from it’s alignment to remove it. If you own a pair of soft nose pliers, be very gentle with those - I’ve had problems before (I’m a little guy with small hands) and I recently cracked a tank on a new device that I couldn’t get apart either. When I wrote on that, a suggestion I received was to no longer disassemble my tanks fully for cleaning, and blow them out with canned air after a wash. Once you do get it apart, don’t forget to lube the o-rings with VG prior to reassembly.
Good luck.
Thanks for this, I did it in the end by going from frozen to a bowl of boiled water for a few seconds, it then came apart okay. Maybe the hot water would have done idk, definitely worth trying next time. I think you were right about the dots, just by pulling I think I was moving them a bit. Thanks for the tip re lubing the o ring, that hadn’t occurred to me.
Don’t force it too hard you don’t want to crack the glass or strip the threads.
A few things to try:
• Make sure it’s actually a pull-apart and not a twist-lock some tanks line the dots up, then you still need to twist slightly while pulling.
• Try a warm water soak instead of freezing heat can expand metal slightly and loosen stuck seals.
• Add a tiny bit of e-liquid around the seam to help lubricate the O-rings.
• Use two rubber grips one on the base and one on the top and apply steady, even pressure (not jerking).
If it’s brand new, sometimes factory O-rings are just extremely tight. Slow, firm, even pressure usually works better than brute force.
I had that problem with a different unit. I soaked it over night in VG. Next morning it slid right off.
