It wasn’t in anything. It was on a Honda CBR1000F, which had a top speed of 156 mph.

Sweet :+1: Why not 157? Governor, just plain top end, gas starved ?

I’ve run my BMW Z3 3L to 142mph before it was gas starved. It was still pulling

I had the same but the 550, going that fast was like feeling your life force leave you. Then a friend got a Ninja and we swapped bikes. I thought I was going maybe 80 on the Ninja but when I looked down it was 140, what a difference. My friend took a while to catch up when I pulled over, we never swapped again

You should feel what 120mph is like on a Harley Road King.

Nothing about it is fun.

Top end, that was the end of fifth gear

I feel bad for those folks who never scared themselves silly by doing completely avoidable dangerous things.

In my defence, I was left unsupervised

@natbone, while I never really spent much time at 120 mph, I can think of countless, white knuckle 30 mph or less situations we got ourselves into. Blown motors, fragged transmissions, twisted driveshafts, rolled vehicles, and much, much more. Hell I got into PLENTY of trouble at 30 mph or less LOL.

Oh yeah, I know. You don’t need speed to do dumb and dangerous things. Sometimes I think back on my first 25 years and wonder how I survived it. Things sure were different then. I feel bad for young people today, they’re so sheltered. I guess if they don’t know better…however, I wonder if they feel the need to just be free of all the fucking adults telling them what to do. We sure as hell did.

Sad to add to this thread - My Father In Law (Ex) who I mentioned earlier in this thread passed away in late January (i just got back from his funeral yesterday)

Australian Street Machine kindly did a write up on the passing of an Australian Drag racing legend. It was sudden and unexpected to both him and us (I say him because he still had 6 project cars in his shed he was working on right up to the day before he passed on).

He was a fantastic bloke who had forgotten more about cars than I will ever know.

Sorry to hear this @woftam, my condolences to you, your family, and a big loss to the racing community. I believe Jim Fife was probably the first to build a 351 race engine in the au , A Legend…
