Could the higher watts and lower ohms be causing my caughing?

It’s been 3 or 4 weeks since I had a cigar. @OldGoat has been thinking it’s my ridiculously trashed lungs rebelling against the vape that’s causing my coughing.

@SessionDrummer was thinking it may be a PG sensitivity. From him I got several bottles with max VG and 0 nicotine. It’s not like the coughing is getting better… I can’t even take a light MTL open or closed air flow.

But I can take a proper DTL with the AF wide open off my POD. Could that be because it’s such low wattage and higher ohms?

There’s no sense in using my pods because they have nicotine in them, and I’m using the patch to get off the nic. Not to mentions the flavor is very week. Any time you see me, you’ll find a sugar free sucker in my face.

'Cept for those watermelon’s. Those things are nasty!

It’s possible.

One of the things that happens when you finally quit is that the cilia in your lungs start working again and clear out the accumulated tar and mucus in your lungs. It is a good thing, it means your lungs are healing give it a little time and the crap in your lungs will clear and you will be back to normal - if the cough goes on for a long, long time, see a doctor, but for now, just hack up all the crap in your lungs and hit your vape lightly when needed.

And if I add PG to your bottles to make it 50/50 for a pod, that’ll dilute your flavors, won’t it?

Like, big time!

Well probably so @PaulyWalnuts. Mostly because I mixed them MAX VG, so to get them to 50/50, the flavor percentage could be reduced up to 45%'ish.

I’ve read something about that.

At 10 swisher sweets a day which google says is = to 10 stinkies each, that 5 packs a day is going to take some serious time to heal!

The nicotine patch is actually rather effective. When I asked my doctor for them he asked how much I smoked, and I (tried to) emphasize a swisher sweet is not a smoke.

There’s 3 steps to the patch. 21 mg/24 hours, 14 and 7, each for 2 weeks. The dumb ass set me up with 1 box (2 weeks) of 7 mg.! I went to our pharmacy and bought a couple boxes of 21’s and 14’s.

21 mg. left me jonesing, so I used 2 patches a day. It made a difference, but boy did I dream about some smoke. SO not easy. Did that for 3 weeks and am now running at 21 + 14. Doing pretty good, but I desire that feeling of expanding lungs, and that subtle hit to the back of the throat.

Suckers help with the hand to mouth motion, and at this point I think I can say I’ve got the habit beat, but I wanna vape! Candy bars, Chocolate malts, Ice cream Sundays. All the sins without the guilt.

I have around 16 +/- bottles of my own concoctions with suggestions from EGO (Oops, I mean) @OldGoat and some of my own recipes modified from other mixers that are all 70/30.

If I use the calculator to add PG to 50/50 for my pods, that should bump up the flavor ratios too, correct? I’ll just have to make careful notes of the differences between the before and after weights.

I think I read something about that. I think that’ll work. But then I thought my dog loved me because he’s always humping my ankle. Then I caught him trying to hump the cat. Which is also a male.

The more pg the harsher the vape will be (more throat hit) more vg == more cloud and a lot thicker so not so good in pods or mtl.

My experience is that it doesnt matter what ratio you use the amount of flavour is the same (homogenization time will be longer with more Vg), however it will have an effect depending on the device - low powered devices will need more flavouring.

You will have to find the right spot for your lungs and device through trial and error.

If you like the throat hit then you can up the PG if you dont want the TH then up the VG (it may need some thinning with distilled water to work in your pod/mtl devices).

That’s just what’s bothering me. I understand PG is a throat hit and flavor carrier while VG is a cloud chasers’ dream… But I’m fine with the 50/50 VG/PG in my pods.

I don’t recall the % of nicotine in that pod juice, it’s been a good 9 months or so since I mixed it. Those bottles are long gone.

When I first mixed the juice I have in my pod today it was harsh as hell. I set it aside and planned to forget about it, but I forgot to forget about it and stumbled across it a few months ago. Sheer curiosity when I stumbled across it made me take a hit. By the time I hit it, it had been steeping for at last 3 months.

Memories not so good so I could be talking 6 months, but the point is, it needed more than the usual 2 weeks to steep.

I’ve been hitting it every couple three weeks for no reason I can think of. Like I say, the flavor is all but non existent and any throat hit is perfect. No cough at all.

To be clear, I have a Smok Mag 18, 0.15 ohms. That puppy and her coils like 80 + watts. I’ve cranked her down to 40 watts and even that causes me to cough. We’re not talking a mild cold cough, we’re talking pick my lungs up off the filthy garage floor, grab my pneumatic staple gun to reinstall them.

Little back ground to help put things in perspective for ya’. 3 or 4 years ago, one of my grand kids came out for a visit, saw me huffing on one cigar after another and called me an idiot. Told me to take a hit off of his mod. Some kind of menthol fruit, I dunno what but nasty and I said, hell no!

We found a smoke shop nearby and he grabbed some brown sugar. HELL YEAH, said I. don’t recall the nic content, but I had no problem with it. Then California decided kids were vaping for the flavors and took away all my candy’s and what not. Why let parents’, parent when the government will do their thinking for them?

Back to the cigars. 3 or 4 more years later of the equivalent of 5 packs/day stinkies and obviously my lungs have gotten a lot more filthy in that time.

Little more background. (Sorry, my memory is like that of a computer. Accessed randomly.) 'Bout 10 or more years ago I met a WWII vet at our mailboxes, we hit it off swapping dirty jokes and was invited over to his porch for coffee and a cigar. We’d sit there for hours on end, and I’d smoke 2, MAYBE 3 cigars in a day.

Before I knew it, I was buying some for myself to smoke at home. Not just when we sat on his porch. After he passed on is when I realized I was smoking at LEAST 10/day. And, that’s when the kid turned me onto vaping. But like I say, some 6 months later there were no good flavors.

It soon occurred to me that I can’t be the only one in that boat, and as I can make my own Alfredo sauce, I must be able to make my own vape juice. That was February of 2025.

To me it stands to reason that the heavy cigar smoking, even for only a few years has destroyed those cilia beyond recognition.

I have wild hair growing from the outside of my nose, my mustachio comes from my nose, there’s wild hair growing from my eyebrows and I do the Donald Trump comb over from the hair growing out of my ears. I chew on it hoping to create some new cilia.

Wow! I remember a question I wanted to ask, just in time before hitting reply!

If PG is a flavor carrier and a pod is 50% PG, not 30%, why do I need to INCREASE the flavor ratios for a pod?

It is a a little bit of a misnomer that PG is THE only flavour carrier most flavours are PG based because the compounds will easily mix and stay mixed in PG, alcohol is another base you may come across in flavours, over the years there are a couple of companies that have made VG based flavours but is is not as simple as PG or alcohol based mixing (or as cost effective). When the juice is fully homogenized you are mixing the pg and the flavour compounds so they are evenly dispersed through the VG .

The reason you will need more flavouring in a lower wattage device is simply due to the amount of liquid that is vapourized during one hit.

Made up numbers to explain it: if you hit a device at 40 watts it may vapourize say 0.1 ml (as I said made up number) then hit a device at say 400 watts it may vapourize 10x as much (again made up number) so the difference between the 2 settings is simply the volume of the flavouring compounds that get vaporized so lower wattage uses less liquid and has less flavour (assuming same juice in each device).

It is a fine line we walk when we mix, too much flavouring in a mix can mute too little it will also mute. Understanding your taste is really important when mixing and tailoring your mixes to your device is just as important.
