Introduction
As the name implies, the Argus G2 Mini is lite version of the Argus G2.
Seeing as the original Argus G2 is as close to a perfect pod system as I’ve seen, is there anything to be gained from removing features (and improving one or two)?
Product overview
The Argus G2 Mini is a 1200mAh, 30w aluminum alloy pod system with adjustable airflow, that uses Voopoo’s Argus 3/2ml top-fill pods.
What do you get?
The device and a single 0.7ohm 3ml pod.
I’d usually complain about getting just one pod – but one pod seems acceptable considering the price.
First impressions
While the zinc alloy bodied G2 has a premium quality feel to it, the aluminum G2 Mini feels rather normal – it doesn’t feel overly cheap, but the difference is noticeable.
Despite having a large battery than the regular G2 (1200mAh vs 1000mAh) the G2 Mini is slightly shorter.
Airflow
This is where the G2 Mini becomes interesting – the airflow is better than on the regular G2. Rather than the G2’s three medium and one tight airflow hole, the G2 Mini has one large, one medium and one tight airflow hole.
This might seem like a minor detail, however the addition of the large airflow hole is enough to take the G2 Mini into the realms of restricted DL, rather than the loose-to-tight MTL draw that the G2 offers.
How does it perform?
- 0.7ohm pod - this pod performs well with MTL settings, but the G2 Mini’s less restrictive airflow settings add an extra element to this pod. Using the single tight airflow hole gives a nice tight MTL draw with good flavor, opening it up increases the vapor production, while maintaining the good flavor.
- 0.4ohm pod - note – this pod isn’t supplied with the G2 Mini, but I had one lying around so… - this is where the more open airflow of the G2 Mini comes into its own. The 0.4ohm pod was good with the original G2, but it’s excellent with the G2 Mini. Fully open, this pod is pretty much awesome, with great vapor production and flavor.
Lights
The base of the device lights up as you vape with multi-colored LEDs.
This is not surprising, what is surprising is that you can turn off the lights by drawing on the device three times with two seconds.
Battery
1200mAh + no screen = good battery life.
Price
The G2 Mini is cheap, I’m seeing prices just under $15 from the usual sources.
While this makes only getting one pod seem reasonable, it makes me wonder how much initial cost of the device matters. For a lot of people, buying new pods and juice is going to end up costing much more than the device.
Conclusion
Without comparing the G2 Mini to other Voopoo devices using the same coils, the G2 Mini is excellent; good battery life, nice airflow and excellent coils.
When you start comparing the G2 Mini to other devices (mainly the P2 and G2), it becomes more complicated; the G2 and P2 have better build quality, a screen and adjustable power – the G2 Mini has better airflow and a larger battery.
