Design

At the top of the Blaze Max RTA, you’ll find a comfortable 810 curved drip tip paired with a quarter-turn top cap featuring robust, chunky knurling for excellent grip. Removing the cap reveals two large kidney-shaped fill ports for effortless refilling. The airflow control (AFC) ring operates smoothly and includes seven slotted intake holes on each side of the tank for precise airflow adjustment.

The chimney section of the Blaze Max RTA prominently features the Blaze logo and branding. Inside the chimney chamber, where it meets the deck, you’ll notice the integrated bottom and side airflow ports designed to channel airflow efficiently to both the side and bottom of the deck. As a top-airflow RTA, it virtually eliminates any leaking concerns.

At the base, a protruding gold-plated 510 pin ensures reliable conductivity, accompanied by THC and Mike Vapes branding. The additional chunky knurling at the base enhances grip for effortless disassembly. The threading throughout the RTA is exceptionally smooth, reflecting its high-quality construction and attention to detail.

Build deck

The build deck of the Blaze Max RTA retains the signature “W”-shaped postless design from the original Blaze but features a slightly larger layout. It is equipped with a double 270° honeycomb airflow system with 60pcs Honeycomb Airflow giving the smoothest airflow experience, wrapping around the coils for optimal performance. The postless design ensures straightforward coil placement, and with the included coil measuring tool, installing a build on this deck is remarkably simple and user-friendly.

The build deck comes pre-installed with gold-plated grub head post screws, ensuring secure and reliable connections, with spare flat-head screws included as an alternative option. A thick PEEK insulator effectively isolates the positive post from the rest of the deck. The deck also features generously sized wicking channels on either side, specifically designed to accommodate ample wicking material for exotic coil builds.

Build

The included coils from THC are very well-made 3 mm diameter 3 core fused claptons. They are Nichrome material and came out at 0.15 Ohms.

Installing the coils doesn’t pose any particular problem. Simply cut the legs using the guide provided, THC recommends a height of 5 mm. No issues placing the coils and positioning them in the deck.

Wicking

Since no cotton is included with the Blaze Max RTA, I used Muji cotton strips for the build. After trimming and fluffing out any excess, the cotton tucked easily into the large wicking wells, making the wicking process smooth and hassle-free. I’ll saturate the coils with a 70/30 VG/PG e-liquid to give it a head start.

Performance

Once everything was set up and juiced, I found the airflow quite airy with the AFC fully open, especially for the installed coils. After adjusting it down one notch, I noticed excellent flavour, with the wicking keeping up effortlessly—even at 100 watts on my 0.15-ohm build. Through some experimentation, I settled on having the airflow about three-quarters open, and it’s been perfect ever since. The airflow is exceptionally smooth, delivering a consistently enjoyable, cloudy vape from this 30 mm RTA. The included coils add a satisfying crackle with each draw, and the flavour and performance is top notch!.

Final thoughts

Kudos to Mike Vapes and Thunderhead Creations for delivering yet another exceptional, well-built RTA. With subtle visual refinements over the original and an increase in size and capacity, the Blaze Max RTA is a worthy contender for any vaper’s shortlist. The larger deck accommodates bigger coils for higher wattages, while the larger wicking channels ensure outstanding performance. No compromise on the airflow with the new design of the AFC controller, it’s an absolute 10 out of 10 from me.
