Introduction
The original Blaze Solo made waves as a single-coil RTA that packed flavour, airflow smoothness, and ease of use into one sleek package. Now, ThunderCloud has teamed up with Mike Vapes again to bring us the Blaze Solo 2 RTA—a refined version that promises even better performance. With an upgraded deck, reworked airflow system, and a design aimed at maximizing both flavour and vapour, the Solo 2 sets out to raise the bar for single-coil enthusiasts. But does it truly improve on the first Blaze Solo, or is it just more of the same with a new look? Let’s find out.

Design
The Blaze Solo 2 RTA carries over the clean, modern look of the original, but with subtle refinements that make it stand out. The tank is compact yet stylish, with crisp machining and a choice of straight or bubble glass to balance looks against e-liquid capacity. The engraving on the chimney gives it a premium touch without being too flashy.
The top cap now has deeper cut knurling, making refills smoother and less slippery. The clear 810 drip tip sits comfortably on top, and the top-fill system uses a simple quarter-turn mechanism—to reveal adequate kidney shaped fill ports. At the base, you’ll notice pronounced grippy knurling, which not only adds to the visual appeal but also makes it easier to remove the tank from your mod or break it down for cleaning.
On the bottom there is some branding with a protruding 510 pin making this compatible with mechanical mods.
Build quality is what you’d expect from Thunderhead Creations: sturdy stainless steel, clean threads, and precise tolerances throughout. Everything feels solid, from the airflow control ring to the glass fitment.
With 122 air inlets built into the system, the design channels air from the top down through the outer chimney section, then feeds it directly into the U-shaped deck. This setup delivers both side and bottom airflow around the coil, ensuring it’s completely surrounded for maximum flavour and vapour density.
Because the airflow enters from the top before being redirected, the tank also keeps its leak-resistant design, making it far more forgiving than traditional bottom-airflow RTAs. The wide honeycomb layout smooths out the draw, preventing turbulence while enhancing flavour precision.
Build Deck
The Blaze Solo 2 introduces a new U-shaped postless deck design that makes building as straightforward as possible.
At the centre are two large coil post holes, big enough to accommodate even chunky exotic coils. Your leads are clamped down by two beefy, gold-plated flathead screws, which secure the coil firmly in place while also ensuring solid conductivity.
A large PEEK insulator sits underneath, keeping things stable and heat-resistant. The base of the deck is surrounded by a chunky O-ring that holds the glass snuggly in place.
On either side of the deck are oversized wicking ports, giving you plenty of room to tuck cotton without choking the juice flow. This makes the Solo 2 very forgiving during setup—wick it right, and it will handle thicker e-liquids with ease while minimizing the risk of dry hits.
Build
The Blaze Solo 2 RTA keeps things simple, even for first-time builders. Out of the box, it comes with two 3-core fused Clapton coils (3mm diameter), giving you a solid starting point without needing to source your own wire.
Using the included coil trimming tool, you’ll want to cut the legs at 4mm.
Installation is a breeze. The large post holes and flathead screws make securing the coil quick, while the spacious deck layout gives you plenty of room to position it. Once tightened down, the coil sits centrally, right in the path of the side and bottom airflow for maximum coverage.
Positioning is straightforward—just make sure the coil is raised slightly off the deck to allow airflow underneath. Dry burn the coil and remove any hot spots where necessary.
No included cotton, so I reach for a strip of Muji cotton and thread it through the coil.
Trim off the excess at the edge of the deck and a light rake and tuck the cotton into the wicking ports.
Pre-soak the cotton and reassemble the tank ready to go.
Performance
The Blaze Solo 2 delivers exactly what a single-coil RTA should, flavor, smoothness, and consistency. With the included 3-core fused Clapton coils, the RTA fires up quickly and produces a dense, saturated vape. Flavour reproduction is sharp and layered, especially with dessert and fruit profiles, thanks to the way the airflow wraps around the coil from both the sides and bottom.
Airflow is impressively smooth. The 122-hole top-to-bottom system eliminates turbulence, giving you a quiet draw even when wide open. Fully open, it provides a slightly airy direct-lung hit, while closing it down tightens the draw without losing vapour density. Because the airflow comes from the top, the tank stays practically leakproof, even when carried around all day.
Wicking is equally reliable. The large cotton channels handle high-VG e-liquids with ease, keeping up with chain vaping at higher wattages without dry hits. At the same time, the design avoids over-saturation, so flooding and spit back are rare when wicked correctly.
Importantly, the deck isn’t limited to the included coils. During testing, a 3-core alien coil dropped in effortlessly—and the performance didn’t disappoint. Flavour, wicking, and vapour production were all on point, showing the Blaze Solo 2 can comfortably accommodate larger, exotic builds without breaking a sweat.
The Vapour production is impressive for a single-coil setup—dense, warm, and satisfying clouds.
Verdict
The ThunderCloud & Mike Vapes Blaze Solo 2 RTA is a worthy follow-up to the original, refining everything that made the first version popular while pushing performance even further. The U-shaped postless deck is one of the easiest single-coil platforms to build on, with big post holes, solid screws, and generous wicking channels that make setup quick and forgiving. Add in the 122-hole top-to-bottom airflow system, and you get a tank that’s not only silky smooth to vape but also practically leakproof.
Performance is where the Solo 2 really shines. With the included 3-core fused Clapton’s, flavour is rich and saturated, while vapour production is dense enough to rival dual-coil setups. Drop in a bigger coil—like a 3-core alien—and the deck handles it with ease, proving the Solo 2 isn’t limited to standard builds. Wicking is consistent, airflow is whisper-smooth, and coil life holds up well under daily use.
Aesthetically, the machining and design are spot on: grippy knurling, solid tolerances, and a top-fill system that works flawlessly. It feels premium without being over-engineered.
I would like to thank ThunderCloud for sending the Blaze Solo 2 over for review, and I hope you enjoyed reading my thoughts on this one.
