Hellvape Dead Rabbit MTL 2 RTA review

Introduction

I liked the original Dead Rabbit MTL that I reviewed about a year ago, it performed well and just as importantly, it was easy to use.

Let’s find out of the V2 improves on the design.

Product overview

The Dead Rabbit MTL 2 is a 22.5mm single-coil RTA, with swappable airflow pins, juice-flow control and a choice or 2ml and 4ml tanks.

What do you get?

  • Dead Rabbit MTL 2 RTA (fitted with 2ml tank)
  • 4ml tank/chamber extension
  • 1×0.7ohm 2.5mm clapton coil
  • shoelace cotton
  • airflow pins – 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.5, 1.8 and 2.0mm
  • spare drip-tip

First impressions

The overall package is good, especially when you consider that this isn’t going to be a $50+ atomizer. As with the previous Dead Rabbit MTL, you get two proper tank extensions that include tank, chimney and chamber.

The base has a bayonet fitting which aligns with two dots, while the top-cap twists off with a single turn, there is also a juice-flow control, however this seems to only affect juice-flow from the side ports, not the bottom ports.

Build

While the deck is quite small, getting both round-wire and claptons secured is quite easy, and helped by the channel to rest your coiling rod in.

Wicking is simple, as long as you fluff them nicely and allow them to fall into place, rather than stuffing them into the deck.

How does it perform?

  • The wicking is excellent, from traditional MTL builds to restrict DL – it all wicks well, without leaking.
  • Flavor is a level above the original Dead Rabbit MTL RTA. I tried a 28g round-wire MTL build for tobacco juices and the supplied coil for a restricted DL build and both worked well, with clearly defined flavors.
  • As expected from an MTL RTA with under-coil airflow, the throat hit is excellent.
  • Juice-flow control – honestly, I never used it. I might use it if I had leaking issues, or I was leaving it for a couple of days full of juice.
  • Airflow pins have been the preferred choice of airflow adjustment for MTL RTAs for a while for a reason – it just works well. It’s not so much about the amount of airflow you’re getting, it’s more about the amount of pressure the air hits the coil with.

Conclusion

The Dead Rabbit MTL 2 is a versatile and easy to use RTA, that performs well – there’s really not much to complain about.
