So much stuff lol. All you guys make me feel like a complete noob. Oh wait, I am a complete noob, nvm!
Bass Boats, mostly - here is one I did 1989 Hydrasport Bass Boat rebuild - YouTube
This is awesome. nuff said.
I don’t know alot about boat’s, so is ‘that much’ wood rot normal in an older one, or did the previous owner store the boat under water? lol How much time did you put into that, Sean? Nice work!
That’s normal rot from most fiberglass freshwater boats from late 60s through mid 2000s, boats wood is sealed with fiberglass and standard polyester resin, this its drilled and screws inserted for lids / hatches, drains etc etc … normal , which allows easier way for water to penetrate the wood… also polyester resin, is not waterproof, just resistant over time water still penetrates the wood and rot ensues.
Plus wood as structural elements is cheaper, so if it don’t last much past the warranty , oh well profits
Mid to late 2000s, boat makers started no longer using wood ( composite materials used ) and those that still did started using epoxy resin that is water proof as long as no screws where used to allow water back into the wood.
Now most boats made are not wood at all, mix of composites and aluminum with epoxy resins
Time hard to say , as it was done over several months piece by piece, average 17-19 foot bass boat tear down and complete rebuild if you worked on it every day, a good 2 months. But when you have more time than money… few hundred for the boat originally and less than 2k for materials. Much cheaper than 25 - 40k for a new one. Bass boats these days fiberglass are 35-80k
Ive rebuilt over 75 bass boats, started for my self, then others started wanting to pay me to do it …my hobbies often turn into paid jobs, at least until I get sick of doing it.
That is one SMOKING hot Locker @chainsaw_squirrel !!!
Thanks dood, its a work in progress … cant decide to add more or leave it as it is
Now I understand your motivation. WOW, they don’t give those away…
