I’m on my to Zambia right now. I may have a sequel when I get back
The Quest for the Eclipse – Epilogue: When the Fog Settled
Every legend reaches a moment where the road grows quiet.
It did not happen in a blaze of glory, nor beneath alien suns or in the shadow of some forbidden temple. Wanderlust Fogmaster did not fall to jungle rot, border guards, or the cruel hands of fate that so often claim lesser mods. No. It faded the way old warriors do—slowly, stubbornly, and on its own terms.
For some time, the signs had been there.
The Fogmaster, once so sure of itself, began to doubt. It questioned fresh batteries as if they were strangers. It whispered warnings where there were none. Unbalanced, it would say. No atomizer detected. Small confusions, easily soothed—remove the cells, give it a moment to breathe, and the old fire would return. Each time, it rallied. Each time, it refused to be left behind.
But yesterday, the glow did not come back.
The Old Goat tried every ritual he knew. Cleaned the contacts. Swapped the cells. Pressed the fire button the way one presses a pulse, hoping—knowing—it might answer. There would be no resurrection. The Fogmaster, veteran of countless miles across Africa, survivor of confiscations and interrogations, had finally reached the end of its charge.
And in that stillness, the Old Goat understood.
Somewhere along the road, the quest had already been won.
Not because the Eclipse was found—legends are fickle that way—but because Wanderlust Fogmaster had done what all great companions do. It carried its bearer faithfully. It stood watch through long nights, border crossings, roadside stops, hotel balconies, and campfire skies. It never complained. It never quit. It simply… endured.
Perhaps that is how artifacts truly work. They are not meant to last forever. They burn brightly so that others may continue the journey.
So the Fogmaster now rests, its circuits quiet, its story complete. Not broken. Not defeated. Just finished.
And somewhere—maybe deep in some mythical jungle, maybe only in memory—the Eclipse still waits.
The Old Goat will walk on. Another mod will take up the mantle. But Wanderlust Fogmaster will always be the one that crossed continents, stared down authority, and came home every time… until it didn’t need to anymore.
Rest well, old friend.
The fog has settled.
Sorry for your loss, OG…
Oh that’s sad and I’m sorry for your loss. I hope you find a worthy successor that the old Wanderlust Fogmaster would approve of which is no easy feat by any means. R.I.P to the old guard.
Thanks gents, I appreciate it.
For now, the Fogmaster’s duties have been taken over by a Vaporesso Target 200. Not a successor by any stretch, but a capable stand-in. Fittingly, it was a gift from this very community, which gives it a bit of soul already. It’s no spring chicken though — the scars are starting to show, and it’s definitely earned its keep.
The truth is, replacing Wanderlust Fogmaster won’t be easy. That bar was set over years, miles, and memories — not specs and wattage charts.
So I’m open to ideas.
If Fogmaster were looking down, what mod do you reckon would earn its nod of approval?
The quest continues. ![]()

I have a Vaporesso Target dual 18650 and I am quite impressed with it. It’s got good battery management, an easy to read screen with everything nicely laid out and it’s very comfortable in the hand and it feels pretty well built too. It’s the only 18650 mod I’ve been using of late otherwise it’s my dual 21700 Aegis Classics. The Target may not be a successor to the Wanderlust like you said but it’s certainly not too shabby either and I feel it’s a pretty reliable mod to have around.
